Analysing Organic Social Media Data in 10 Minutes
Posting on social media is great but what is all your effort worth if you don’t know the results? Measuring and analysing your organic Social Media data is important and not as difficult as you may think. In this blog post, I will show you how you can analyse your data in ten minutes each month.
Why is it important to analyse my data?
The main reason is to understand your social media efforts and see what is working and what is not working. By doing so you can find out which posts get the highest engagement, which time to post and what content type your target audience engages the most with.
How often to analyse
I suggest putting a reminder into your calendar and measure your results monthly. It will only take you ten minutes each month if you use my below tracker template and follow the below steps.
Knowing what to analyse
I like keeping analysing data simple because otherwise it is a hustle, and we don’t do it. Therefore, I recommend analysing the following:
- Profile views
- Comments
- Likes
- Post Views
For the comments, likes and post views you will have to add the result from each post up and divide it by the number of posts.
Where to find the data
Facebook and Instagram – Hands down the best place to find the data in one place is Facebook Business Manager. Alternatively, you can use Creator Studio or go into the individual account insights.
LinkedIn – Unfortunately LinkedIn makes it difficult to track your data. The best way to analyse your data is by viewing all your posts and go through them individually. See how:
- Log into your account
- Click on your profile picture
- Click ‘See all activity’
- View posts & analyse
And now?
Once you have the results of the above, I recommend choosing the best post for each platform. This way you know what has been perceived well and what you can do more of.
Another thing to watch out for is the posting time for your posts. If you haven’t already done some A/B testing and see which time works best for you and your content, I’d highly recommend doing so. This can vary between industries, target audience, platform, and many other factors. For example, in the current lockdown people are using social media more often.

Competitors
Twice a year I would also recommend checking out what your competitors are up to. For this, I would simply set aside two hours of your time and see what is working for your competitors, what they are posting about and more importantly what they are NOT posting about, and YOU can post about.
Tip: Make a yearly calendar entry to remind yourself of doing your competitor analyses.
